STOP PRESS: LATE BREAKING NEWS
Chinehams incinerator was occupied by Greenpeace on Monday 17th June. Thanks to all the Mums, Dads, Children, Parish and Borough Councilors who supported the BBAC march to the incinerator on Monday 17th June - Global anti Incinerator Day! Well done - sorry the Police / Landowners/ Developer (Thames Water or Hampshire County Council or Hampshire Waste) were afraid of women and children and would not allow us to reach the actual incinerator. At least the Greenpeace activists saw that we care! The radio and TV sound bites were first class!
Here in Chineham, the only way our incinerator can be stopped is if the Government change direction - there are signs that they are fraying at the edges. As for the immediate situation at Chineham: - The Environment Agency has yet to grant an operational license to Hampshire Waste Service (HWS). They are building this plant with no license to operate! I think that that HWS must be very confident or have inside information.
Chineham P.C. has commissioned an environmental specialist to review the application for a license made by HWS and this concluded that the equipment specified for flue gas cleaning is not the best available. Also there is no proposal to use state of the art continuous monitoring equipment to check the plant emissions and this has to be addressed. BBAC and the Parish Council are actively encouraging the Env. Agency to make sure they understand our concerns.
Once again thank you and lets hope all this media attention can make a difference!
Kind regards : Cllr. Chris Tomblin.
